A discreetly hidden house in the heart of Lapalud village, Provence
Behind a simple village façade lies a rare gem. For over sixty years, my family has lived in this 18th-century Provençal house, built of exposed stone and steeped in history. Today, it discreetly opens its doors to a select few guests seeking an authentic, welcoming, and timeless retreat.
Many of our visitors mention the same surprise: discovering, in the very heart of the village, an unexpected house, bathed in calm and serenity. From the very first moments, the atmosphere is soothing, and one quickly feels at home, in a warm and deeply personal setting.
From the moment you step inside, the tone is set. A spacious entrance hall welcomes guests, enhanced by a grand stone staircase, traditional plasterwork, and a color palette inspired by the ochres of Roussillon. This space, both majestic and inviting, immediately reveals the soul of the house and invites you to explore.
The living spaces extend this sense of harmony and softness. The kitchen, dressed in deep red ochres, evokes the Provençal earth and conviviality, while the living room, presented in soothing shades of green, invites rest, reading, and conversation in a hushed and elegant atmosphere.
Outside, the cottage garden unfolds as a verdant and peaceful haven. Designed to respect this intimate environment, the swimming pool was conceived as a discreet, natural-style pool, so as not to disrupt the garden's atmosphere. It blends seamlessly into its surroundings, offering a refreshing and relaxing space in perfect harmony with the tranquility of the setting.
The spacious and light-filled bedrooms (ranging from 25 to 50 m²) combine old-world charm with contemporary comfort. Each bedroom features a desk, a flat-screen TV, a private bathroom, quality bed linen and towels, air conditioning, and ample storage. A terrace is at your disposal, and an elevator allows you to take your luggage up to the large bedroom located on the second floor.
Free Wi-Fi and a fully equipped communal kitchen are available, allowing everyone to enjoy their stay at their own pace, in complete freedom.
An ideal starting point for discovering Provence
Located in Lapalud, in the far north of the Vaucluse, at the gateway to the Drôme Provençale and the Ardèche, the house enjoys a privileged location. The village is centered around its historic heart, crossed by the Grand-Rue and dominated by the Romanesque church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens (13th century), a listed historical monument.
Easily accessible (7 km from the motorway – Bollène exit), the house is 50 km from Avignon, 17 km from the Ardèche Gorges, 38 km from the Pont d'Arc, and just 6 km from the Crocodile Farm (La Ferme aux Crocodiles). Avignon-Provence Airport is 65 km away, and Marseille-Marignane Airport is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes away.
From the house, numerous excursions are possible: Aix-en-Provence, Arles, Nîmes, Vaison-la-Romaine, Grignan, Valréas, and Montpellier. Provençal markets, true hubs of local life, are also part of the experience—particularly those of Pont-Saint-Esprit and Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes on Saturday mornings, or Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux on Tuesdays.
This discreet house is especially appealing to travelers seeking an elegant and soothing retreat, where you arrive as a guest… and leave with the feeling of having been welcomed like a friend.
